Division overview

District Heating Division

The District Heating Division delivers thermal energy from a central plant to entire neighbourhoods through pre-insulated underground piping. We deliver new networks, expansions, substation upgrades, and rehabilitations of legacy systems — designed to reduce heat losses and CO₂ intensity.

Scope of services

What we deliver

  • Hydraulic modelling (Termis, NetSim) and pipe sizing
  • Pre-insulated steel piping — twin pipe and single pipe
  • Trenchless installation where ground conditions permit
  • Indirect substations with plate heat exchangers
  • Consumer-side metering (M-Bus, LoRaWAN)
  • Replacement of legacy 4-pipe systems and leak-detection campaigns
Core expertise

How we work

  • Design to EN 13941 (pre-insulated bonded pipes)
  • Network monitoring with leak-detection wires and acoustic surveys
  • Heat-loss audits and tariff restructuring support
  • Integration with existing CHP plants and HOBs
  • Smart metering, prepaid billing and consumption analytics
Sectors served

Where we deliver

  • Municipal district heating networks
  • University and hospital campus systems
  • Industrial heat distribution
  • Residential and mixed-use developments
  • District cooling for commercial precincts
  • Geothermal and waste-heat integration
Frequently asked

District Heating — your questions

What does the District Heating Division deliver?
New district heating networks, expansions, substation upgrades and rehabilitation of legacy systems, designed to reduce heat losses and CO₂ intensity.
Which pipe systems and standards does APIS use?
Pre-insulated steel piping in twin-pipe and single-pipe configurations, designed to EN 13941, with trenchless installation where ground conditions permit.
How does APIS reduce losses in existing networks?
Through heat-loss audits, replacement of legacy 4-pipe systems, leak-detection campaigns with leak-detection wires and acoustic surveys, and network monitoring.
Does APIS install consumer substations and heat metering?
Yes. Scope includes indirect substations with plate heat exchangers and consumer-side metering using M-Bus and LoRaWAN, with smart metering, prepaid billing and consumption analytics.
Can district heating integrate CHP, geothermal or waste heat?
Yes. The division integrates networks with existing CHP plants and heat-only boilers, and with geothermal and waste-heat sources. It also delivers district cooling.
